Minnesota State Fair Information:
The Minnesota State Fair is one of the most anticipated events in the entire state of Minnesota. Known and marketed as “The Great Minnesota Get Together”, the Minnesota State Fair plays host to nearly 1.7 million people annually, which makes Minnesota State Fair tickets one of the hottest commodities in the Twin Cities come August.

The Minnesota State Fair was first officially held in 1859, which happens to be the year after the state of Minnesota was granted its statehood. Originally, the Minnesota State Fair site rotated annually between the cities of Minneapolis, St. Paul, Owatonna, Winona, Red Wing and Rochester, until the official site between the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul was acquired when the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners donated a farm to the State of Minnesota Agricultural Society. The State of Minnesota Agricultural Society also happened to be the governing body of the Minnesota State Fair, and decided to use the site as what is now known as the home to the greatest twelve days on the Minnesota calendar.

The Minnesota State Fair is featured as one of the top three largest state fairs across the entire nation, and may actually be the largest in terms of average daily attendance. The Minnesota State Fair fairgrounds are adjacent to the University of Minnesota – St. Paul campus grounds, which is home to many of the agricultural and animal based degree programs. The main entrance to the Minnesota State Fair is located on Dan Patch Avenue, which is named for a famous racing horse who won every race entered between the years of 1905 and 1909.

The Minnesota State Fair entertainment is something that no other festival in the country can rival. Since the Minnesota State Fair is based around agriculture across the great state of Minnesota, there are dozens of competitions that give participants the opportunity to showcase their skills and prove themselves as the greatest in the state at their craft. Some of Minnesota State Fair competitions include: the 4-H Livestock competition, which gives 4-H members the opportunity to win first prize for the best beef and dairy cattle, poultry, rabbits, dairy and market goats, sheep, llamas and swine; the Ag-Hort-Bee, which showcases the best Christmas trees, Honey and Bee culture, Flowers, Farm Crops, Vegetables and Potatoes and Fruits and Wines from the state; the Creative Activities competition, which allows participants to compete for best in show in needlework, handicrafts, baking and canning; the Education competition, which gives participants in grades K-12 to show off their creative art work and creative writing skills and many more competitions around the Minnesota State Fair of the like. Minnesota State Fair entertainment goes much further than just agricultural competitions, though. Everyday at 2 PM, the daily parade showcases some of the best things the Minnesota State Fair has to offer. The Minnesota State Fair daily parade follows a fourteen block loop, starting and ending just south of Como Avenue, and features the high school marching band competition, floats, animals from events taking place around the Minnesota State Fair and visiting royalty from festivals around the state. The “top of the top” royalty seen at the Minnesota State Fair is Princess Kay of the Milky Way, who advocates for and represents the dairy industry in the state of Minnesota, and also receives the honor of having her likeness carved in butter.

There are many exhibits and interactive stands included in the Minnesota State Fair entertainment sector that give Minnesota State Fair-goers the opportunity to really experience agriculture hands-on. Probably the most popular of these Minnesota State Fair exhibits would be the Miracle of Birth Center. Each year, approximately 200 animals are born in this barn over the twelve days that the Minnesota State Fair runs. The Little Farm Hands exhibit is an interactive agricultural exhibit for children, teaching the process of how food goes from the farm to the store. The Agri-lympics feature competitions for the best in cow milking, animal calling, wool packing and butter carving. Minnesota State Fair entertainment doesn’t even stop there. Once you’ve exhausted all of the unique and informative exhibits the Minnesota State Fair has to offer, there is the Midway, the area full of rides, games and fun houses to check out. Just make sure you don’t make the beginner’s mistake of wearing a skirt to the Minnesota State Fair – it really limits which rides you can easily go on! And then, the crème de la crème of Minnesota State Fair entertainment – the food. The Minnesota State Fair is known for the multitudes of food on a stick. Basically anything that could be put on a stick can be found at the Minnesota State Fair…on a stick. Between the cheese curds, corn on the cob, pork chops, deep fried candy bars, pronto pups, hotdish, Chinese food and Spam curds, it’s pretty easy to fill up fast. You just have to make sure you save room for some of Martha’s cookies before you leave.

For many people, the best in Minnesota State Fair entertainment is capped off by the concerts at both the free stages and the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand. Minnesota State Fair music starts at the free stage, which can feature anyone from local acts to talent competitions. Minnesota State Fair music ends at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand, which features numerous hot acts on each of the twelve days of the Minnesota State Fair. Since the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand cannot capacitate the crowds that these acts can draw, it can be very difficult to find Minnesota State Fair concert tickets. Never fear, though, Ticket King is your number one source for Minnesota State Fair concert tickets! Experiencing Minnesota State Fair music is a one-of-a-kind experience. Where else can you go from watching an animal be born in a barn to a concert put on by a top-40 artist within a few steps of one another?

Because of the huge draw for the wide array of Minnesota State Fair entertainment, the Minnesota State Fair truly is the “Great Minnesota Get Together”. Create your own Minnesota State Fair experience this summer with Minnesota State Fair concert tickets from Ticket King!
